Senior Year of High School Regional Finals

Looks like me hitting an awful slice backhand and making a really stupid face! I played competitively all four years of high school, reaching 3 state championships and winning 3 regional titles.
2016
American Tennis Association National Championships
After taking 6 years off from tennis when I went to college and graduate school, I returned to the sport in 2022. I decided to play in the Richmond branch of the American Tennis Association’s league and ended up going 13-1 before qualifying for their national championships in Miami. Accordingly, once I got to Miami, I played some of the worst tennis of my life! Had a great time with my friends though.

All this time I had been studying to become a history teacher and I finally landed a job! Interestingly, I settled back down in my hometown and was back with my old friends. The school I teach at had coaching openings and I eventually bit, becoming head coach of the Varsity Girls Tennis Team. I coached an unbelievably talented, fun, and hardworking group of student athletes to an undefeated 16-0 regular season record, finishing first place in our region. Our school qualified for the state championships for the first time in over a decade!

Tennis Under the Lights!
Me with one of my doubles partners, and good friend, Gianni. We made it all the way to the finals of the Richmond Tennis Association’s annual event celebrating Arthur Ashe at the Byrd Park Tennis courts, Tennis Under the Lights. We came up just short of becoming champions, losing 8-6 in the tiebreaker, but had a great time competing.

Checked off a lifelong dream of mine to go to Wimbledon whilst on a really fun trip to London and Berlin with my friends, the “Fungals!”

New Year, Same Me
Of course I am still getting on court as much as I can now. Somehow, I returned and am once again a member of one of my hometown clubs. I would spend many winters here getting ready for the upcoming season as a kid. I am doing the same exact thing right now…

I’m a tennis player, high school coach, private coach, hitting partner, and the tennis wall’s worst enemy (although it usually tends to win). I play at the USTA 4.0 & 4.5 levels currently. I am hoping to reach a 5.0 level by the end of the year.
I am also an academic. I received a BA in History & Government from William & Mary before getting an MA in History (public history track) from Northeastern University. I completed a MT in Secondary History & Social Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University.
I am passionate about both tennis and history! I am even more excited when I have the rare opportunity to combine them. If you have any ideas, suggestions, or requests, please let me know! I am happy to collaborate.
